Abstract
Different books on chemical thermodynamics use many similar symbols, and sometimes the same symbols are used for different things, creating confusion for beginners. In addition, there are many terms and concepts in thermodynamics that seem to be similar, leading to further uncertainty. In this chapter, the symbols and terms used—particularly those that might create difficulties for beginners—are summarised.
