Siloed Diversity

Abstract

Siloed Diversity is an urgently needed concept Gomes develops to make sense of diversity in this age of mobility, transience and digital media. In this chapter, Gomes describes in detail how diversity within the transient migrant space takes place because transient migrants form siloed physical and digital networks based on their identities. This chapter discusses the necessity of silos in terms of the cultural, physical and digital (social) connections transient migrants make while overseas. Yet this chapter warns that siloed diversity leads to the formation of echo chambers and social disconnections between transient migrants and sender and receiver countries.
