Evaluation on the Dimensional Stability of Filled and Un-Filled Models of Investment Casting Pattern Materials

Abstract

The dimensional stability of casting is a vital index in the process of the quality control of investment casting and the stability is directly affected by the dimensional stability of models of investment casting pattern materials. By using the Batch Stabilization Process Capability Index (Cpk) to give an evaluation on filled pattern materials of investment casting (Brand SP9515 and F28-44B) and unfilled ones (Brand T162 and HH162), it was found that the Index of the former was higher that of the latter. Hence, it is suggested that for manufacturers, utilizing filled pattern materials can improve the dimensional stability of casting when producing high-quality precision parts. Meanwhile, filled pattern materials have better surface properties.
