Effect of Phonological and Semantic Radicals on the Identification of Chinese Characters: Instructional and Research Possibilities

Abstract

Phonological and semantic radicals are important clues to the learning and remembering of Chinese characters. This chapter reviews relevant studies in this regard and suggests that Chinese Language teachers use the phonological and semantic radicals as a framework to organize teaching materials for effective teaching.
