Abstract
Internet of Things (IoT) is emerging technology and it plays a key role in developing smart cities. This new technology includes embedded devices, which are connected to the internet. IoT applications are spread over various fields like agriculture, healthcare, automotive industry, home automation, and security, etc. Nowadays, Wireless Communication (WC) is becoming an essential tool to link the devices, organizations, and people in the world. In IoT, WC is budding technology and more exploration is needed. This issue motivates the authors to propose generalized framework for WC in IoT. Framework is divided into five phases according to the architecture of IoT. First two phases focus on the configuration of sensors and gateways; third phase explains the cloud integration, fourth phase is about configuration of the server, and fifth phase considers the user interface. Hence, proposed framework does ease the work of IoT application developer. Authors illustrated the framework using the case study of electricity utilization in domestic. The application uses sensors and Raspberry pi for computing and providing electricity usage consumed by home or building using wireless communication between the devices. This provides the awareness to the user about power consumption pattern and better utilization of the electricity.
