Abstract
Today, more and more network devices are joining the network so it is becoming very difficult to manage the network which is increasing rapidly. SDN is radically the new idea in the field of networking. With the help of SDN now, networks can be designed, build and operate easily in different scenario as compared to the approach used in traditional networks. The basic principle of SDN is to decouple the control plane (controller) and data plane (infrastructure). But new security challenges are also born with the introduction of SDN. Providing the security mechanism to the network users and preventing the unauthorized access is the main goal. Traditional firewalls are inflexible, expensive, and vendor-specific. To overcome these problems we developed a firewall which works on transport layer and application layer of TCP/IP model of network using SDN which ultimately eliminates the cons of traditional firewalls and can work without the use of dedicated hardware; network administrator can extend/modify the code as per the use.
