Two-Way Association between Agriculture and Climate Change

In this introductory chapter, the duality of relationship between the climate change and agriculture has been brought out in the forefront. Agriculture is both, a sector most impacted by climate change, as well as an important source of greenhouse gas emissions. Both these aspects are briefly reviewed to provide a view on the nature and scale of the problems. The concept of climate smart agriculture, which is being promoted as a major intervention to overcome the adverse impacts of climate change and the measures required to implement it in South Asia, are discussed. Different chapters on technologies, policies and institutions contained in this book have been introduced in this chapter.
