Abstract

Chapter  1, “Philosophy and Religion,” was written by Lai Jielian and translated by Chen Kaiju. It provides an overview of the historical development of Chinese philosophy, with detailed discussion on various schools of thought, and then treats Chinese religion in a similar manner. It endeavors to reveal to the reader the complex and spectacular picture of 3000 years of intellectual and spiritual exploration and achievement.
