Abstract
This chapter introduces the importance of quality of care in reducing the unmet need for family planning, and the need to accelerate progress on improving quality of care in Indian family planning services. We present a brief overview of the current context, i.e., the FP2020 (global and national) initiative, to highlight the importance of addressing the issue of quality of care. The FP2020 initiative argues for voluntary, rights-based family planning programmes. The rights-based approach to family planning builds on the bedrock of quality of care, which means listening to what women want, treating individuals with dignity and respect, and ensuring that everyone has access to full information and high-quality care.
