Abstract
The DTFT may not exist for all sequences due to the convergence condition, whereas the z-transform exists for many sequences for which the DTFT does not exist. Also, the z-transform allows simple algebraic manipulations. As such, the z-transform has become a powerful tool in the analysis and design of digital systems. This chapter introduces the z-transform, its properties, the inverse z-transform, and methods for finding it. Also, in this chapter, the importance of the z-transform in the analysis of LTI systems is established.
