Abstract
Quinine commonly known as cinchona alkaloid belongs to the alkaloids from natural compounds, extracted from the bark of Rubiaceae plant and cinchona tree. Quinine is the antidote to malaria; the discovery and application of it have saved millions of malaria patients. Biological activity study proved that quinine could kill all kinds of parasite schizonts; it mainly affects the life cycle of the parasite by effectively controlling the developmental conditions. It is mainly used for clinical treatment of not only falciparum malaria caused by chloroquine-resistant strains of plasmodium falciparum but also plasmodium vivax malaria.
