Abstract
As an energy-converting system, a permanent magnet spherical motor (PMSM) can be characterized as a combination of two subsystems; an electromagnetic system and a rotor dynamic system. The analytical models presented here include the equations governing the magnetic field, energy and force/torque of a PMSM, and the equations of motion describing the three degree-of-freedom (DOF) rotor dynamics.

Notes
- 1.
The travel time of light can be neglected and the fields are as if they propagated instantaneously [1].
