Abstract

The design of radome wall is a critical task in the manufacturing of airborne vehicles, which has to adhere to the electromagnetic boundary conditions and the availability of radome materials. In addition, the radome has to survive the effect of rain, erosion, lightning strikes, aerodynamic loads, and other destructive factors. The choice of type of radome wall construction will depend on the application requirements. A single thin skin may be suitable at low frequencies, but multiples of half-wave thickness may be essential to provide sufficient strength at the higher frequencies, where the sandwich types may be preferred as they provide high strength-to-weight ratio and wide bandwidths.
