According to Luciano Petech’s categorization, Tibetan Aristocrats have three ranks. The first is Yabshi: since the seventh Dalai Lama, there have been six Yabshi Families, the second is Diben, by the time of the Peaceful Liberation, there were five; the third is the average one. By the time of Peaceful Liberation, there were around 200. However, the majority were never politically active (2008, pp. 36–38).
