Abstract

Patients with critical injuries or those in whom certain specific injuries are identified should be considered for early transfer to a higher level trauma center. However, hemodynamically unstable patients who need to be transferred to such a center may appropriately undergo operative control for ongoing hemorrhage before transfer if a qualified surgeon is promptly available at the referring hospital.
