Abstract
This chapter grapples with an urgent question; Is women’s empowerment for real in India? Taking into account wide-ranging evidences from feminist activism from society, from films and from women’s writings, this chapter reads the larger narratives of women’s struggle in India. It studies the acts of subversion, resistance and rebellion while underscoring the abject oppression and victimisation of women which gives rise to these acts.
