The chapter “Systems Design” introduces concept of information systems design along with the desirable characteristics of systems design. It lists out major elements of design such as output, input, interactions, processes, and controls. The chapter provides brief discussion on major outcomes of the systems design phases. Further, the chapter provides a brief overview on function-oriented and object-oriented systems design. While discussing output design, the chapter highlights types of output as well as things to be considered during designing output. Similarly, objective of input design, coding methods to make input efficient, and data capture guidelines are also provided in this chapter. The chapter also provides brief introduction to the design of dialogues, processing, and control. After completing the systems design process, some outputs are expected, discussion of which is also provided in this chapter. At the end of the chapter, practice questions as well as objective questions with answers are provided.
