Abstract
Chapter 1 discusses the history of Philippines’ migration to Australia in greater detail. The so-called ‘three waves’ of migration is presented with emphasis on the hyperfeminised migration. The feminisation of international migration is then related to the exodus of women to Australia, who were later derogatorily labelled ‘mail-order brides’. The chapter also problematises the ‘sexualised citizenship’ ascribed to women migrants in relation to Australia’s difficult racist past and the complex realities of its multicultural present.
