1927 witnessed the publication of Wang Shi-jie’s (王世杰) Comparative Constitutions. It is a benchmark work in the realm of constitutional studies in China. In the foreword to that volume, Wang wrote, in a mood of regret that, “for more than the last decade, Chinese people have paid a lot of interest, at last, in the fields of constitution and constitutional scholarship.”
