Abstract
Drawing from previous scholarship on theories of the state–religion relation, this chapter discusses various models of government regulation of religious affairs. It is argued that regulating religion is still a common phenomenon in the world, though the ways in which governments or regimes intervene in religious matters varies widely. It is by nature a complex and multi-dimensional subject and is closely related to the legal, political and social dynamics of each country.
