Chapter
Part of the The Humanities in Asia book series (HIA, volume 2)

Abstract

Over past decades, China has experienced unprecedented economic development and social change, which have contributed to its rise as a global economic power. At the same time, China is also facing unprecedented challenges, including corruption, environment degradation, ethical issues, and educational disparity. China’s social and economic reformation and transformation have made a great impact on education. China has long valued education as the key to social, political, and economic status—and what bring honors to the family.
