Abstract

This study develops a gradient model to consider heterogeneity of granular materials based on thermo-micromechanics, micro constitutive relation and the hypothesis of statics and kinematics. In this model, the macroscopic deformation is related to the particle displacement by a non-affine projection scheme. Numerical examples illustrated the capability and performance of the presented model in modeling strain localization in case of considering and not considering particle rolling.
