The Coconut Mite: Current Global Scenario

  • Chapter
  • First Online:

Abstract

The coconut mite, Aceria guerreronis Keifer, is considered a serious, invasive pest of coconut in many coconut-growing countries. Though the pest was reported in the American and African region about half a century ago, this pest has drawn less attention of scientific research, but it has been intensified after its invasion into the Asian region. This chapter reviews the information on world distribution, origin, host range, morphological and geographical variations, biological and ecological aspects, damage, crop loss and control measures of the pest.
