Abstract

Before the Opium War, the jurisdiction of the Qing government was integrated and independent. According to Da Qing Lv Li (the Laws and Precedents of Great Qing), the legal cases involving foreigners were settled according to the provision of “Hua Wai Ren You Fan” (the invasion by foreigners).
