Abstract

In the present work, an ITMS (Intelligent Traffic Management System) is used for managing and controlling traffic lights based on photoelectric sensors placed on one side of the road. The suitable space between each sensor is selected by the traffic control authority. As a result, the traffic control authority can supervise vehicle that are running toward a particular traffic direction and can thereby manage transmission of information signal to microcontrollers which are fixed to the traffic control cabinet. An Arduino is a microcontroller which is capable of managing the traffic signals by using the information sent by the infrared sensors. In case of emergency, this system can pass the ministries vehicles, ambulance, and fire brigade buses that oblige urgent opening, i.e., clearance from traffic signal system by using RFID-based technology.
