Abstract

Effects of microstructural factors on the susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement in various testing methods are reviewed. Emphases are placed on characteristic features of fracture and deformation microstructures associated with observed degradation. Substructural alterations and the strain-induced creation of lattice defects are also remarked as related to degradation. Some parameters proposed to assess the susceptibility, like the critical hydrogen concentration, are presented.
