Differentials in Race and Privilege in the United States and West Africa

This melodic chant followed us around the city of Cape Coast, Ghana, sung by school children to greet us whenever we passed. We typically answered this call with the expected sung response, “We are fine, thank you,” which was almost always followed by a sea of giggles, and then school children swarming us to walk, chat, and hold our hands through town, as if we were rock stars.
