Abstract
Internationalization in Chinese secondary education originated as a solution to educational placement of expatriate children of foreign cultural background living in China with their parents. Following implementation of the Open-Door Policy there were no appropriate schools for these children and at first private schools were engaged in the internationalization process, with the first international school built in the 1980’s in Shanghai.
