Abstract

This chapter serves not only as a review of academic literature but reviews several discourses – including images (see Figure 1) – that have been instrumental in the construction of knowledge regarding Black women’s bodies, psyches, and everyday lives. This review follows a historical trajectory, which begins with “Scientific Discourse” and its role in shaping “Government Discourse”.
