Abstract

According to Bedouin folklore passed from one generation to the next, they are descendants of one of two fathers, Joktan (i.e., Kahtan in Arabic, Yuktan in Hebrew), the great grandson of Arphaxad, son of Shem (i.e., one of Noah’s sons), or Ishmael, the son of Abraham the Hebrew and Hagar the Egyptian.
