Mapping Portuguese Institutional Policies on Access Against the European Standards and Guidelines

  • Chapter
Book cover Global Challenges, Local Responses in Higher Education

Abstract

One major achievement of the Bologna process regarding the quality assurance agenda is constituted by the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) (Kohoutek, 2009; MAP-ESG steering group, 2011). ESG can be defined ‘as a supranational (…) policy programme that includes three sets of standards accompanied by the corresponding guidelines to be taken account of and implemented into the quality practices of the quality assurance agencies and higher education institutions of the Bologna-signatory countries’ (Kohoutek, 2009, p. 17).
