Globally, the continuing professional development of teachers and its impact on the performance of educational systems are high on political and educational agendas. A well trained, professional, up-to-date, flexible and responsive teaching force, able to make a real difference to the quality of young people’s learning, is regarded as a key to educational reform and economic sustainability.
