Abstract
Student retention is critical to the ongoing success of every post-secondary institution. In the context of growing awareness on issues of women’s equality, anti-racism, class-biases, ableism and other isms that have traditionally been criticized as reasons for low enrolment and retention of historically marginalized groups, student retention poses unique questions and challenges for any institution wishing to address the diverse needs of the learning public. This chapter will examine the current trends that influence and guide best practices in the field of student retention at the tertiary level in general and community college in particular.
