Abstract

Chinese society has been experiencing a period of transition from a planned, centrally controlled economy to a market economy since 1978. The relevant literature indicates that the social transformation has been an impetus for, and is reflected in, educational changes (Fagerlind and Saha, 1989; Carnoy and Samoff, 1990).
