Abstract
Michel de Nostradamus is best known for his prophesies. He is less well-known for his day job: he was an apothecary who aspired to practice medicine during the plague. Nostradamus was unusually successful treating victims of the plague (Leoni, 1961), probably due to a few unusual practices. Centuries before the discovery of the microscopic cause of diseases like bubonic plague, Nostradamus stressed the use of clean water, clean bedding, and fresh air (Hogue, 1994).
