Adaptive Co-Management

Abstract

Adaptive co-management has its foundations in the convergence of two independently evolved concepts, adaptive management and co-management. In practice these two approaches frequently blend into adaptive co-management when successive cycles of participation, learning and doing occur. There are similarities and differences in linkages, temporal scope, organizational level and capacity building focus between co-management, adaptive management and adaptive co-management. One of the outcomes of adaptive co-management is that all actors will ultimately, and to varying degrees, perceive the system as integrated, complex and adaptive, with interactions and feedbacks between resource users, resources, ecosystems, governance and public infrastructure.
