Abstract

Globally, university research and industrial innovation are concentrated in a few major economies: the USA, Japan, and the European Union. Nevertheless, these activities have become more dispersed internationally over the past few decades. By delving into the university’s engagement with innovation in the BRICS in the relevant chapters in this volume, the analysis provided here brings to the forefront major developments in these emerging economies that help illuminate their unique trajectories. The chapter highlights distinctive issues that each of the BRICS needs to tackle to link university research and innovation.
