Elastic waves in crystals

Abstract

This chapter introduces an important application of the elasticity tensors: the propagation in crystals of acoustic waves, the velocity of which depends directly on the stiffness tensor. The end of this chapter discusses briefly the relation between this macroscopic property and atom vibrations.
