Abstract
Culturing algae is very important not only for their experimental studies but also for industrial production. Therefore, unialgal culture is very important which are free from contamination. In order to obtain unialgal cultures of selected algal species various culture techniques and maintenance is required. Sterilization of all the glassware and disinfectant treatment of the microalgae should be taken care before the start of culture. Common culture media for both micro and macroalgae are prepared and store at 4 °C so that there should be less contamination. The culture can be maintained both in solid and liquid media. But for the preservation of cultures for long time it is preferred to maintain in liquid cultureὑ.
