Abstract
In the preceding chapter we have attempted, for each case separately, to draw a conclusion from certain phenomena as to the direct cause of the nystagmus. In this chapter we shall first study the manner in which the anomalies and manifestations observed in the individual cases are distributed over the series as a whole, in order to reach a better understanding of the relationship between these phenomena and the nystagmus. Making use of the insight thus achieved we shall then endeavour to ascertain whether we can place our theoretical views upon a sounder basis and whether we can find promising lines of approach to problems in which our present knowledge is insufficient.
