The Role of ADP in Regulation of Chloroplast Coupling Factor

Abstract

Chloroplast coupling factor (CF1) was shown to contain nucleotide binding sites (H. Strotmann et al.,1976). Nucleotide binding seems to alter permeability of the CFoCF1 complex to protons. This leads to a reduced leakage of protons out of the thylakoids in presence of nucleotides (P. Gräber et al.,1981) and a reduced non-phosphorylating electron transport rate (S.Izawa,1980 and B.Huchzenneyer, A.Loehr,1983).
