Abstract
It has been almost five years since the appearance of the first edition of the book, and during that period many international situations arose. Many of them were brought to the attention of the Security Council, although there were some notable, if not surprising, exceptions like the Sino-Soviet border clashes and the Biafran war. In writing a postscript covering the last five years I will follow the same case study method. Before undertaking this task, however, it may be useful to review some general remarks made in the earlier edition and briefly define the characteristics of the international system of the last five years so that a certain guide to organizing the postscript may be obtained.
