Abstract
Judaism—Yahadut in Hebrew—is first and foremost a religion. The term Judaism—Judaismes in the Greek form—is first found in the Jewish-Helenistic literature of the first century as a synonym for ‘the religion of the Israelites’.1 The same sense is found in St Paul’s Epistles to the Galatians—‘And profited in the Jews’ religion’.2
