Material Culture

  • Chapter
The Papuas of Waropen

Abstract

In this chapter I have collected the data concerning what is called in ethnology by the not quite satisfactory term “material culture”. Over against “spiritual culture” the word “material” suggests a restriction I shall not maintain in this chapter. In this connection I believe some remarks on the knowledge of nature not to be out of place. The section on children’s games was inserted here, because the material was insufficient for a separate chapter.
