Abstract
The history of the Arab States in the last decade is characterized by a series of revolutions which brought in radical changes in the long established ways of life. Immediate causes of these revolutions and the means of bringing about the desired change may have been different in each country. However, the basic factors underlying them are identical. These are threefold: The desire to achieve and maintain independence; realization of a higher level of material welfare for the masses and narrowing the wide social and economic gaps between individuals so that an integrated and strong society may emerge.
