Abstract
Electroplating of plastics is a well-established commercial process, especially in the automobile industry, where it is used to manufacture radiator grilles, hub caps, lamp housings, door handles, body trim and other items that were previously made in steel or die-cast zinc-based alloy. Other applications include domestic appliances, plumbing, jewellery and furniture parts. The market in electroplated plastics is dominated by ABS, with some competition from rubber-toughened PPO. A number of homopolymers, including nylons, polypropylene, polysulphone and acetal resin, are also plated.1
