Summary

Studies were carried out on the Long-Wooled Polish breed. Twenty-three anti-sera were obtained as a result of a series of immunizations and 30 re-immunizations. From these 23 sera, 15 were separated after use in hemolytic tests and after absorption as sera identifying single antigenic factors of sheep blood. These sera were given identifying letters according to the author’s own nomenclature. Sheep flocks were tested with these sera and the frequency of antigen occurrence was established. Studies of the inheritance of antigens to aid further classification were made on 761 sheep, including 9 rams, 238 ewes and 514 of their offspring. An analysis of the inheritance within particular animals (sire-dam progeny) showed that the sera which had been tested belonged to 4 systems. Seventy-five percent of the sera were classified as belonging to the B-system.
