Abstract

When a suspended line with uniformelv distributed load is fixed at both ends it has the shape of a catenarian curve. It deviates little from the shape of a quadratic parabola when operating with the tensions which are common in cable cranes. Since the calculation is simpler when using the quadratic parabola and since this is sufficiently accurate for the purpose, .this formula will be used in the following.
