Abstract
In a cable crane the main, haul-back and hoist lines carry out the dynamic part of the work. They transfer the forces from the winch drum or the Pulley to the point where the force is required. The wire ropes are specially constructed in order to transfer pulling forces but they cannot transfer any pushing forces. The winch, therefore, must be constructed so that it can return the carriage or rig to the terrain, i.e. by means of a haul-back line. If not, the crew must carry out this heavy work.
