New Developments in Cytoplasmic Male Sterility in Vicia faba L.

Part of the book series: World Crops: Production, Utilization, Description ((WCPU,volume 10))

Abstract

The instability of the two determinisms of nucleo-cytoplasmic male sterility which are available in Vicia faba is described. In the case of the 447 cytoplasm, the cytoplasmic spherical bodies were characterised in biochemical studies and it was confirmed that they are directly linked with male sterility. Increased particle content in pistils seems to be a good predictor of greater stability of male sterile lines.
